Wait, what’s a “Solar Advocate”?
I’m glad you asked! To be honest, we’re doing something new – so we made it up.
A SOLAR ADVOCATE is an independent expert who works for you.
Solar Advocates stand up for our customers, protecting your interests, your preferences, and your sanity.
Solar Panel Installation
is just one part of the puzzle.
The Best Solar Installers & Companies
are our partners and our responsibility.
As Solar Advocates,
we provide the experience, the guidance, the expertise to make make it a good experience.
Tell us right up front. Shall we:
- Calculate how much power you use & need?
- Start with your budget and see how much power you can get?
- Figure out the maximum power you can generate?
It’s up to you. There’s no wrong answer.
Our job is to guide you, manage the process, handle the paperwork, and leverage our expertise to make your life easier – just like a Real Estate agent.
The truth is, there’s no single best solar installer. There’s only the best-fit for you and your project.
The other truth is, this isn’t a snap-together DIY weekend task. It’s a construction project that requires design, engineering, permitting, inspections, and patience.

Hi, I’m Kris
Since 2009 I’ve been hooking up customers with their own solar power, working for a handful of differently solar companies from the big-boy national brands, to fast-growing start-ups.
Now I’ve struck out on my own.
I’m on a mission to make going solar easy, predictable, reliable, and painless.
The customer needs a champion, so I’m building a team of heroes.
Weekly Communication Commitment:
Nobody likes getting left in the dark.
Good news. Bad news. No news.
You’ll hear from us.
Phone, email, text… or all three.
What we will do for you:
- Listen to your reasons and goals for going solar.
- Design your system with you so you get what you’re expecting.
- Present you multiple quotes from local installers.
- Keep in contact every week through installation & energization.
- Be available whenever you have a question (or just need to hear a bad joke).
…and we don’t work with just any ‘ole installer- these are qualified companies we stand behind because we’ve worked with them before and know them to be trustworthy.
We know the best solar installers.
The truth is there is no single “best solar installer”.
There is, however, a best-match installer for what you care about:
- Lowest price solar panels?
- Longest lasting solar panels?
- Most efficient inverter?
- Fastest installation timeline?
- Best service quality?
- Smallest panel-coverage area?
- Most flexible for future expansion?
- Shortest timeline to ROI?
- Lowest up-front cost?
- Lowest overall cost?
- Specific equipment you desire?
- Specific lender options?
Every installer & each equipment choice have their best qualities and nobody is best at all of them.
But you know who really is better? The local full-time crews installing systems all day every day. Not a cobbled-together short-term labor force fulfilling a big-box store contract. Just sayin’.
You’re going to pay somebody.
We work like a Buyer’s Agent in real estate. That means we work for you. We listen to what you need and learn what you care about. Then we design a solar power system that is what you need it to be. Finally, we match you with whichever of our trusted installer-partners are the best-fit for you and your project.
They pay us – just like the seller pays the Buyer’s Agent fee – while you get the benefit.
(You didn’t call up a Real Estate Brokerage and try to buy a house without an agent of your own, did you?)
Sure, it’s government and corporate policy to get 3 quotes, but it’s also just plain smart.
A solar power system for your home is going to cost about as much as a modest sedan: $20k – $50k.
You could just “walk onto the lot” and talk to the first car salesman who spots you as they circle like sharks, then do it two more times, each time having to disentangle yourself from their “What can I do to put you into this car today?!” high pressure sales tactics…
When you contact a solar company, you’re walking onto their lot. And believe me when I say they’ve got something to sell you. (Ask me how we know.)
Or you could spend the next three Saturdays grilling and laying in your hammock.
Our installer-partners know I’m delivering a well-designed system and a customer we will take care of. That’s why they give us a better price; that’s how our payment doesn’t just jack up the price of your system (we actually often beat their regular price).
How? I spent 14 years working for one of the “big time” solar companies. I was this company’s 17th employee and 2nd salesperson. During my time, they grew from $1MM to $50MM. I made a tidy living.
Then came the straw that broke my back, but I’ll tell that story in a minute.
We’ve been responsible for 3,357 installs and just as many customers. We’ve seen all the ways it can go wrong, even when most of the time it went right.
Your character isn’t judged when things go right, but by how you act when things go wrong.

Just weeks after installation, I was on the phone with my customer. They had a leak.
When they called the Service Department they felt like they got a blow-off answer to the effect of “Sorry, we’re booked-out 6 months, try contacting the manufacturer.”
So my customer called me on my cell phone.
All my customers have my cell phone number.
“Enough of this.” I thought, shaking my head. I hired my own contractors. Sent them to the client’s site. They fixed the leak and I paid the bill out of my own pocket.
That’s when I realized I was doing it all anyway. Why the heck was I working for someone else?
(We’ll talk more about service department stuff in a minute…)
Enough experience to stop a freight train.
Think about the last time you got stopped at a railroad crossing and watched a coal train roll by.
A standard coal train is 115 cars, carrying 116 tons of coal each. That’s 13,340 tons of coal. At ~2,000 kWh per ton, that train was moving ~26.7 million kWh of future electricity.
That’s enough to power 2,225 homes for 1 year (or all the homes in Colorado Springs for about 5 days).
In 2022 alone, my team and I deployed 3,250 kWh of power for 374 customers. In their first year, those systems will generate 4.45 million kWh. That’s 19 freight cars.
Over my 15 years, I figure I’ve eliminated 2 whole freight trains. Now we’re working on the third, fourth…
That’s not a political statement. If all the freight trains stopped rolling today, we’d be living in the dark. They are our present, and quite necessary. Solar is our future.
Solar panel system design
Computer Aided Design rocks. Using satellite imagery, LIDAR data, and a smidge of AI I can design an accurate system in about 30 minutes from my kitchen table, while you sit at yours watching via screen share.
There is virtually nothing we can do differently at your kitchen table than we can on a video chat.
Living in the future is pretty cool, eh?
If we really need a site visit, we’ll be there. But give us 30 minutes on a video chat first. You’ll be impressed.
Solar panel technology
Panels, batteries, inverters, even wires and mounting systems. If you want to get nerdy, I’m ready to dive into the details with you.
Solar panel financing
With a price tag around that of a new car, it’s okay if you can’t write a check for it.
And unlike a car, a solar power generation system saves you money month after month – long after it’s paid off.
Multiple financing options available from 5-year to 20-year terms. We’ll figure together out what’s best for you.
Solar panel tax credits
It may be a few extra hoops to jump through, but through 2032 you can receive 30% of the cost of your solar power system as a Federal Tax Credit – not a deduction – a credit.
That means if your system costs $30k, you pay $10k less in taxes this year.
It’s also not a rebate, so if the credit is more than you owe, it rolls over to next year. Sorry, no big fat refund checks available.
Solar panel incentives

Solar Panel Maintenance & Service
Alas, “Service Departments” can be seemingly-elusive. Unfortunately, this is an area the solar industry has fallen short. Sometimes it’s one poor soul’s job to tell customers “Sorry, we’re booked-out 6 months, try contacting the manufacturer.”
The good news is manufacturers stand behind their products. Equipment typically comes with a 25 year warranty. The manufacturer will connect you with a local qualified service contractor, so they just deflect, making you do the legwork.
This is where a Solar Advocate comes in handy.
All too often, I’ve seen installers go out of business, get bought, or simply not honor their verbal commitments.
This was a huge part of why we invented the role of Solar Advocate.
As our client, you just call us. We take care of it. It really is that easy.
This isn’t some Jordan Balfas pump and dump scheme where we vanish into the unfindable ether after closing the sale. (Why does that name sound so familiar? He’s the so-called Wolf of Wall Street.)
This is the future of our energy, on every roof of our community, where we live too – and we’re excited about it! – so we’d better get it right.
I was talking to this guy who lived in a less-than-2,000 square foot house. He was burning through 5,000 kWh of energy every month.
That’s a lot. That’s MORE than a lot. That’s a $750/mo power bill.
He showed me his bill and I read it with my own eyes. He wasn’t wrong. I was thinking, “Unless you’re growing marijuana or mining bitcoin, something’s not right…” So I did a site visit.
He had been living in the house for 4 years with 7 dogs. He had never changed his furnace filter. (Hey, not everybody knows everything about being a homeowner.)
I dug out handful after handful of dog hair until I finally unburied the filter itself.
His electric usage the next month? Down to just 1,300 kWh. That’s $555 saved per month for the cost of a $15 air filter! (Go ahead, splurge! Get the expensive $30 one!)
That’s the value of expertise, and frankly, giving enough of a sh*t to figure out what’s going on.
If I had just taken the numbers off his bill and designed a solar panel system without questioning anything, I would have quoted him $116,000!
Unless you really don’t want it, we’ll include a Sense Monitoring device with your system that will read the real electric usage on each circuit throughout your home.
I installed one at my own house. But before I tell you what happened, I’ll admit it. I had some wasteful habits.
Within just a couple months of monitoring my real usage and making some changes, my own usage went from 1,700 kWh/mo to 1,200 kWh.
I’m not talking about big lifestyle changes – just something as simple as turning off your desktop computer overnight, or closing the blinds on that big south-facing window in the summer, can make a big difference.
You can’t improve what you don’t measure.
Solar Panel Installation
Yup, it’s typically just a one-day job with a crew of 2-5. (Sometimes we’ll come do some prep work the day before.)
We install the brackets. Mount the panels. Tie into your electrical panel. Then there’s a final inspection required before the net meter can be set and the system can be activated…
No, not a bribe. I’m talking about return on investment. The dawn of a brand new day.
The cost of energy is going up. In fact, the average cost per kWh has nearly doubled since 2000. In the next 20 years electricity demand is expected to triple. Simple supply and demand forces will continue to drive prices up and up.
That’s bad news if you’re paying your utility bill. But it’s great news if you’re selling power back to the grid.
Or, think of it this way: You just locked in your electricity rate for life – okay, maybe not all your life, but at least the next 25 years. While your neighbors complain about their soaring power bill, you can work on hiding that smug grin. 😉
As the cost of energy increases, the power generated by your system is more valuable, paying itself off faster and saving you even more.
You unfold the two sheets of paper, flip the second one over, your eyes scanning for Total. Then you see it. $15.00 Just $15 bucks instead of $150.00!
(There’s always a minimum connection fee from your utility, typically $10 – $45)
Losing a zero never felt so good. And you’ll get that feeling again next month. And the next. And the next. And, yeah, eventually you get used to it, but AWESOME!
Congratulations and welcome to the solar revolution.

- You moved into your house less than 6 months ago. (It’s hard to calculate your savings without real data.)
- Your roof is constantly covered by shade. (I’d be happy to recommend an arborist…)
- You live in a steep-walled canyon, leaving you with few hours of direct sunlight.
- You rent your home. (Hey, that roof’s not yours!)
- Your roof only faces north. (That’d be some weird architecture, but we’ve seen it all!)
- Your local utility is uncooperative. (This is really rare.)
- You’re a Scrooge McDuck Oil Man. (Don’t be a cartoon curmudgeon.)
